The Humbling
Episode guys, it's the humbling, it's the
Will:It just hasn't aged well.
Jerrell:as of, as of what? Five 30
Will:an hour ago, yeah? Okay,
Jerrell:but we weren't out to humble Newcastle. We were out to humble man city and we got the job done. right.
Will:we'll talk.
Jerrell:Yeah. We'll talk about it.
Will:But, how are you guys?
Jerrell:there's only so much you can do.
Will:Jerel, are you on the other side of your, your FluPod?
Jerrell:am, on the other side.
Will:Christian, how you doing post 5k?
Christian:Pretty good, pretty good. 5k was fun. Weekend was fun. No, no, just just enjoying the work week. And by enjoying, not enjoying. But here we are.
Will:Living my best life.
Jerrell:he loves it. He's sitting in his bed working. It's great over there for him.
Will:He put a shirt on so I know things aren't doing okay for him this week, so I hope everything's okay with you bud. I'll see you soon.
Christian:I'm under the covers.
Will:I heard we have some new listeners.
Jerrell:We have new listeners
Christian:From where, Jarrell?
Jerrell:All around the
Will:We hit four continents.
Jerrell:Yeah. Yeah, we got, we got listens from France. Here in the States, and, and Virginia.
Will:to We're in Japan,
Jerrell:a listen from Japan. Jesus, I, I should've looked this
Will:He said, I, I thought you were gonna, I thought you were like, I Jesus. I was like, oh, I cheat?
Jerrell:heard
Will:Aichi? Anime taught me Aichi, but also if our Paris France listener, we appreciate you don't listen to Christian's farm release comments, episode four. We didn't think we'd become a top 200 soccer podcast in the United States. I didn't realize that there was repercussions for our conversations. Also still cut the check.
Jerrell:hate listened.
Will:Yeah. Listen to them stutter.
Christian:the people going.
Jerrell:But we, but we appreciate the list in either way.
Will:Stay with us. We'll root for your favorite team. Christian said no.
Christian:All hands on breasts.
Jerrell:crazy. Cause really cool to, check the stats on that one and see the lessons from, from around the world. So that was, that was fun.
Will:so we appreciate y'all because once again, this is the podcast that I think no one asked for, but here we are. So here we are.
Christian:I feel like all podcasts nowadays are podcasts no one asked
Will:But we're different. We're different.
Christian:for sure.
Will:Yeah, we have beards.
Christian:repeat listeners?
Jerrell:What?
Christian:you track repeat listeners?
Jerrell:No, because it's based on location, right? I don't know the individual who's listening.
Will:scenes guys, we, we don't, we give this content out for free for all of our listeners, the Japanese, the Australians, mate, all of them. So I,
Jerrell:Aichi, they tell their friend, and then we get two listens from Japan. But I can't tell you if it's the same
Will:yeah, it's not reasonable. It's usually by device, usually where it's like separate devices, I think, but who knows? Who knows? Probably someone.
Jerrell:not here to nitpick. We're just happy that you're here.
Will:All right. All right. That being said, a lot going on the last week. I feel like we're really back and running. Quick transfer window news. Man City, in the face of probably getting sanctioned in some way, shape, or form, they spent 178 million pounds. Over the rest of February, they had gotten Marmush out of Frankfurt previously Kusinov, a new center back. He had a tough start last week against Bruges. Nico Gonzalez, who, when I saw the name, as he's a former Barcelona player, came through La Masia. Him getting 60 million pounds after his stay at Porto caught me by surprise. They also stuck out Vitor Reis coming out of Brazil and Numan Ball as well, who is, was it valid to lead? So they spent 178 million pounds. Probably. They need some help as they've been struggling throughout the rest of the season. The last couple of months of the season while also preparing for potential sanctions for, some PSR stuff, man, city one 15 is still alive. Spurs, they went ahead and got Antonin Kinski earlier backup keeper. He's been playing really well for them. So far they were able to get Mathis tell late on alone with the option and Kevin Donzel as well to play in their backline. All their center backs have injured. They picked up a new injury. As they come up. Someone highlighted Imperious. I love that. Villa do business. Duran obviously gone. They bring in Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester City, Manchester United. He's been froze out with Ameren System. And Marco Asensio of PSG, the former Real Madrid guy. How do you rate it, Christian?
Christian:Sensio? Oh, that was a, that was a good signing. I'm, I'm, I'm interested to see how you're gonna, he's gonna do with Villa opposite of Marcus Rashford. Should be an interesting signing. That'd
Will:they heard me a couple weeks ago saying they're not, Hey, yeah, not a lot of teams trying to do as much business. And Man City said, fuck you, Will. Because this window, there's a, there's a, The third most spending in a winter window from the Premier League in the last ten windows winter windows. Forty four percent of it came from Manchester City. And that has been this, this this winter's transfer window as it closes. Some other leagues still open, like I think the Dutch League, but that's, that's the goings, the givens. Thoughts.
Jerrell:a graphic. I saw a graphic on Instagram where they're like, look, guys, MLS has spent the fourth most among all soccer leagues. And everyone's here, winter window is, is, is your summer window.
Will:hmm. We they also
Jerrell:the
Will:they also just finally opened up like being able to trade cash for players or whatnot we're we're making steps. I think I saw something. I wasn't sure how real it was I think Christian shared it about them. Also, maybe Conforming to like the European schedule, but we'll see how that goes because then
Jerrell:yeah, I did see that one too. It was,
Christian:nice.
Jerrell:concrete
Will:said I don't have enough football from August to May Please give me more
Christian:Yeah, no, that's, that's true. It is nice when there is no more soccer for, from the real tournaments. We can still turn on to MLS
Will:Wow The real tournaments, that's crazy
Jerrell:It's a farm league.
Will:We are the farmers. We are the world. We are the children.
Jerrell:just said, they said Cucho where he went
Christian:He wants a bettas he's gonna be playing with Anthony
Will:Anthony, yup.
Christian:I never understood this is not even has anything to do with the prime at this point Maybe a little bit. I never understood why Kucho went to MLS. Kucho has always been a baller It's not it's not his first time overseas. He's played for Mallorca. He's played for another La liga team that I can't put my finger on right now But he he played for wofford and when he played for wofford, he scored a bicycle kick others like in the premier league. He's played in the premier league. He's played for la liga and he's always been good So him moving to mls two years ago fucking baffled me and it was somebody I always wanted to like this guy's good He should really play the national team, but fucking coach is stuck up on russian Cordova and duran who maybe who know who knows how the fuck he's going to develop But anyways He's finally back in La Liga. He can hopefully get a lot more minutes and,
Will:Maybe he, maybe he was just loving the crew. Christian. Moving on. Moving on. Match day 24 results! Who wants to give it to us?
Jerrell:I'll go ahead. I'll run through it. Yeah, so match day 24 kicks off with bangers bangers everywhere. Nottingham for it just for the forest really. Forest beats Brighton 7 0. Chris Wood gets a hat trick. Is this a second hat trick this
Will:Chris would be ballin
Christian:Yeah. No,
Jerrell:insane. I think it was like what 5 0 at the half or something. I don't know. Forest just Really, really angry after the Bournemouth game and just really stuck it to
Will:Yeah.
Jerrell:it's pretty crazy. So the Cherries cannot top Liverpool and help close the gap for Arsenal.
Will:Salah's goal.
Jerrell:to
Will:Oh my god.
Jerrell:is,
Will:Oh my god.
Jerrell:doing Mo Salah things. So yeah, sorry. Cherries could not topple the Titan of this year, but. They're still hanging in there. Everton blanks Leicester City 4 0. Another blowout game for, huge win for Everton. Ipswich falls to Southampton. I am so sorry, Christian. There were no happy Tractor Boys this weekend.
Will:Christian's been catfished somehow. Hahahaha. Hahahaha. Hahahaha.
Jerrell:Newcastle, saving themselves for today so they can keep moving on in the Carabao
Will:I didn't put the score. I think it was 2 0. Sorry. Hahahaha.
Jerrell:Ashton
Christian:on the
Jerrell:beat Ashton Villa 2 0.
Will:When I felt bad for Ipswich. Cause I was like, Damn. Wolves really went up.
Jerrell:Wolves putting themselves just outside the relegation bubble. Still, still not out of danger yet. I think they're two points
Will:Yeah, we'll review standings in a little bit.
Jerrell:The next one. So yeah let me jump back over to it. Brentford could not win at home against the Spurs conceding two goals. I believe that's Brentford's.
Will:They've lost 4 out of 5 at home.
Jerrell:they've been
Will:Yeah. Mm hmm. Mm hmm. It started with Arsenal.
Jerrell:Arsenal just opened the floodgates on that one. So the Spurs not being able to beat. Good teams lose to bad teams.
Will:this game was really against run of form because Brentford really dominated in this game. Spurs got their first goal off of own goal in the first half. And then their second goal came late from a beautiful nutmeg from Ismail Astar on the goalkeeper, but XG 8. So Spurs found a way to get three points in a game. Probably they didn't deserve it. Go figure.
Jerrell:I did watch this one. Crystal Palace, Man United, Crystal Palace wins 2 0. A surprise for me. I thought it would be a draw. But Man United has been struggling all season. Crystal Palace gets it done, trying to stay above the relegation line. Arsenal humbles Man City 5 1. Felt like a masterclass for Arsenal. And what we've been hoping to see all season, of the 1E what is it? XG? 1XG for Arsenal is a little insane when you drop 5 on Man City's head. But hey, take em, take em when you
Christian:head.
Jerrell:And then Chelsea beats West Ham 2 1. West Ham continuing to struggle this year. Chelsea trying to get back on track. Alright, and that was our those were our results.
Christian:all folks.
Jerrell:Yeah, that's all folks. Any, any game you want to jump into?
Christian:Do we want to save the humbling first or last?
Will:Now let's dive right into that bitch. Fuck that.
Christian:I remember watching the game and I remember putting in our chat Halftime could not come fast enough because yeah, we got it was man city's offensive mistake We had a high press early on that led to to great to great goals But you can see from like the 15th, 20th minute forward, just kept going back and then City just kept getting chance after chance after chance. We did not look good the last half of the first half. And thankfully something guess a great speech, we got two young teenagers out here scoring, getting on the score sheet, but it was, it was definitely a scary, scary, scary, scary first half. Because if you guys remember the first game, the first game we were up and the next thing you know, we fucking lost that in an extra time. And that was tough. And I was just having flashbacks. I was having big flashbacks. I'm like, no, not again.
Will:Yeah, and I think the script kind of was dictated a little bit because we got that early goal. And part of me I was wondering, I was just like, damn are they, are we holding for a one goal lead? At home considering city struggles or what's going on. And then holland obviously had that great goal Just off some early movement great headed finish where saliba got cooked didn't really have a chance and the response right away from thomas partay really opened up the floodgates for us. So that was big.
Jerrell:Seconds.
Will:What's what's the same drill? The mls goal loved the goal loved the celebration I think at Edison right edison. I think he probably could have had a You know done a little bit more with the save there, but from there we were just fucking rolling. I
Christian:Adderson was injured for that game. It was
Will:Thank you
Christian:backup Who is Uh Uh, Ortega. That it is.
Will:There you go. I thought he could have done more Yeah, it'd be
Christian:german
Will:Okay, naturally. Yeah, cuz he got a hand to it, but and MLS It was a good shot on goal But it's like it looks like one you expect to get the save and then from there We just like we just flew off which previous year I think Man City maybe shows a little bit more backbone is a little bit more in it But it was pretty comfortable and we just kind of like kept racking on the goals essentially. Noneri, that finish was just divine Honestly, Partey had a huge goal that took a deflection out of the box, but First half was scary, scary hours a little bit, I'm not gonna lie.
Christian:It's funny. I don't know. I remember if it was this game or like a previous game where at home games people chant or ask party not to shoot from deep But this time we just saw the opening he said
Will:He, he had a couple
Christian:goal.
Will:and they
Christian:mariah, bro. He had in the first half. He had two amazing saves One I think was off a corner and another one took a deflection and it was just an an amazing safe from Raya
Will:and yeah I love the the game flow how it ended up going because we didn't even talk about Havertz, you know It's going wide on an open goal or around 30th minutes where I was just like I hope we win because if not you know, I Was just like oh no so big win for, for Arsenal in there. They haven't lost two city in the league over the last two seasons. Draw and draws on the road both years and then wins at home the last two years. Yeah, positive, positive, positive result against the team. That's usually in first, some work to do the rest of the season, but good one, great one, honestly, all things considered
Jerrell:They control their own destiny.
Will:Not really.
Jerrell:Liverpool game? Yeah, they still have to win out,
Will:Yeah, we play Liverpool May 10th. I actually looked that up. So Liverpool Arsenal May 10th Barcelona Real Madrid May 11th Christian. So I mean We
Christian:10th and May 11th.
Will:Oh, no, we'll talk after it's okay.
Christian:I don't think I have anything set for that. Now I
Will:Just any further any further thoughts on these on the contest though guys
Jerrell:No, I think we covered it. Yeah, that first half was a little scary. To go up one Oh, on like a goal that was just laid in front of you because of a man city mistake and just. Which felt like they just sat on it. I think arsenal definitely did wake up after holland scored the equalizer was it equalizer? Yeah
Will:Yeah, yeah, he equalized. Yeah.
Jerrell:and just put put put on the gas and just write up the score because honestly You got to have that mentality if you want to compete at the top You can't just score your goal settle and and just wait for 90 minutes. You got to You gotta keep pounding the way if Liverpool does anything well, they, they get their goals no matter where they're at, and they can be up 3 0, they're still looking for the fourth, I think Arsenal needs to get into that mentality more. And we can argue that, hey, they don't have a 9, and they don't have that ability to score, but, they can score off set pieces. Havertz is serviceable. What, I think he has 15 goals on the season. He's getting a lot of hate, but he does contribute. And, yeah, every striker misses goals here and there, but Arsenal needs to remember that they're a top flight team, and they need to play the full 90. That's my take on it.
Will:Yeah, I'd say he's just not a natural nine So he does a lot of other things well, but he's since he's not a natural nine It's always the thought of just kind of like, if we had Ollie Watkins, or if we had a Holland or something, those half chances become more regular chances essentially versus Havertz. It's,
Christian:for Kuchel.
Will:I don't know about all that, chief. Otherwise, did you, were you guys able to catch any of the Burn Myth Liverpool game?
Jerrell:I did not watch that
Christian:No.
Jerrell:I did see the Man United. I did watch Man United, Crystal Palace, and Brentford Tottenham. Second halves of both of those.
Will:Guess a quick touch on that, Burn Myth played Liverpool very fucking throughout the majority of the game. It was just one of those where they, they just couldn't, they couldn't get a goal. A lot of it I thought Burn Myth actually was able to boss a little bit on Liverpool. But Liverpool were able to get their goals and take their chances and finish it up. And once again, I know I already shouted, but if you get a chance to see Mo Salah's goal, his second one. Because it was a fucking wonder strike that there's nothing you can really do with it The whole defense just flat footed it it there's nothing you can do. It just really showed his class just wanted to shout out another mosala brace one from the penalty If I remember even the penalty was was perfect, too The goalkeeper guessed right, but he put so much pace and precision on it that it was just kind of like well You know charge it. Yeah, just wanted to shout out liverpool because they continue to You know keep the rest of the league at arm's length.
Christian:What's
Jerrell:is still in his contract year, right? He's not, he didn't get an extension, correct?
Will:I thought I saw something, but I didn't get a chance to verify about Van Dyke and him potentially coming to terms, but I didn't, I, I was at work, so I didn't get a chance to follow up to see if it was legit or just rumored. But still contract year is what we'll say as of February 5th, 624 PM.
Jerrell:Gotcha.
Christian:And Salah's apparently leading the premier league and goal scored. He has 21 for the season.
Jerrell:Despite Chris Wood's best efforts.
Will:think Chris Wood finally broke. He's at what, 16, 17 or something after the Hattie.
Christian:He has 17. He's tied in third with Esoc.
Will:Yeah, cause I had that, I had that on, I had the kind of rotating coverage, that shit was going crazy. But, yeah, Chris Wood, he broke 15 for the first time in a Premier League season this weekend, and then it was just another goal, another goal. And Bryden, Bryden, we won't even talk about it, it literally felt like one of those games were like they were doing okay early on. And then you saw the life lead them and forest were just like, Hey, we got fucked on last week. So somebody's going to carry this weight, essentially.
Jerrell:turn.
Will:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Watch out match day 25, we're a week and a half away. Watch out Chelsea. Cause Bryton, Bryton at home, we'll see what happens.
Christian:Yeah. I'm, and Forrest really needed this. We touched on, on it, they lost seven, zero last 7, 0, 7 1, I don't forget. But they got destroyed last week.
Jerrell:5 0 last week. They got blinked and
Christian:yeah. Five. Oh, and they won seven. Oh. This time around. But it's an important game. I think the, they last two games of February is against Arsenal and Liverpool, if I'm not mistaken. sorry Newcastle in our in Arsenal at the end of February. So they really needed this bump after, after losing so, so bad last week. They really needed a good strong finish to come out here and hopefully not too hopefully, but they would be hopeful to take this this momentum into the next few games.
Will:and then Everton with a big win over Leicester as well. Everton with that win and a game in hand it, I feel like they've played themselves a little bit out of the relegation drop zone for sure. Rest of the season staying at 26 points. Game against liverpool. We'll see what goes on. Fucking foxes though. Not not looking good at all Looking terrible.
Christian:The Foxes, they have a super high defensive high line and it's in Everton took took advantage of it. I, the first goal was a goalkeeper assist. They, if they're going to play that high, if you got speedsters out there, all you need is those long passes. I think their first, second and third goal all in the first half was just exploding the defensive high line that, that the Foxes have right now.
Will:Yeah. Yeah That's our maybe they're we're trying to play a little bit outside of themselves seeing hey another team around us on the table We're struggling maybe try and switch it up a little bit more but just not much fight everton really just rolled them so So Ipswich Southampton, I didn't get to see too much. Ipswich on goal XG were at 1. 8 to 9 in it but huge loss, huge loss late for them. Southampton only picks up their second win of the season. This doesn't really change their trajectory, it looks like. They're still seven points out of second to last place, 19th odds are they're still there, but Ipswich had a chance to take some points and stay also competitive in the league. And they're three points back of Wolves, who are in 17th. Definitely gonna have to make it up somewhere considering that wolves were able to get a win against Aston Villa who's Higher on the table. What do we say every week? Somebody can get got and this week was Ipswich so Ipswich favorite at home But go figure so
Jerrell:Yeah, Southampton gonna try and play the spoiler role for the rest of the season, cause yeah, I 10 points out of the bubble in itself. I don't see them getting out with, what, 12
Will:and it's tough because the start of the season They had a couple games where they had multi goal leads that they blew and you see those points coming up by them Yeah, so I mean you convert a couple of those games into wins Maybe you're in the ballpark at least where it's just hey, we're we're in it but You know can't go back. There's 14 match days left and you picked up a clutch three against a team around you so they might have just pop it switches bubble But they have time to they have time to respond. So we'll see see how it looks.
Jerrell:Yeah. And then men United losing at home to crystal palace, crystal palace
Christian:CB.
Jerrell:just been surging all the way up to 12 place. Now they leapfrogged man United, huge win for palace that we were talking about a couple, like a month ago, how, they were sitting 16th, 17th and looking for answers themselves that have really,
Christian:They found it.
Jerrell:Yeah, they, they did it. They, they have found it.
Christian:Yeah.
Will:was muted
Christian:looks other than the, the bees, they've been. On a pretty good hot streak here. See, they beat ManU, they beat West Ham, Leicester, tied against Chelsea, and then, previous to that, their back to back losses to Arsenal. so yeah, Crystal Palace, I think, currently sitting 11th or 12th on the table. They're doing pretty well like you said, considering the fact that, in the beginning, we were just, we're, it looked like they weren't gonna make it out. Yeah,
Will:they had a lot of close results that didn't go their way they had their five game unbeaten run broken last week, but they got right back on track this week So I feel like they're playing more where we expect them to but also I think this might speak to manchester united escaped With the result last week And hey, you get points where you get them, but they haven't really looked convincing over like the last month or so too much at all. They got a, they did get a win against Manchester, I mean against, that win against Brighton earlier, but I don't know. They haven't looked too convincing under Emerim, and it's also tough to make that transition early, so manchester United, I think, realistic expectations is just Hey, you finish presentable and respectable and you just, you avoid some 7 0s or 5 1s or whatnot rest of the year.
Jerrell:And Tottenham taking care of business against Brentford, getting the three points that they desperately needed I forgot what we said last week, but they were they're at least on a four game losing streak hug heading into that game. So definitely needed Some type of, some type of win.
Will:Yeah, they had one win in their last 11 coming into this one. And prayers up also for Radu Dragusan. They finally bring in a center back coverage to assess with their back line and all the The fixtures are going and being you know under marked we talked about kulesevsky's comments coming into this week or after last week's games and radu draguson, he goes down with the acl injury. Cheers to him and quick recoveries. Hopefully
Jerrell:Yeah. And then on the flip side of that Brentford who peaked at like ninth place on the table this season is just hovering around that middle of the table spot, still improving from last year. I think they finished 15th on the table. So it's definitely. 16th on the table last season. They're definitely in a better spot than where they were, but still, still much to be desired with with this team and hoping for a little bit more, especially with how the power six teams in Man United and Tottenham have really been falling to the wayside and got to fill that, that gap, that space.
Will:Yeah. Yeah. Brentford, they're around where you hope for them. They had some eye catching results earlier in the season with their quick goals and results and how they were challenging teams. But yeah, mid season doldrums. So let's see with Thomas Frank, Thomas Frank, a great coach what he can get out of them rest of the season. And I think the only thing we haven't touched on Chelsea, they were able to get that comeback when we're down one O to West Ham, West Ham playing a lot better under Graham Potter. But Chelsea too much too late. They finished a second half come back and they're into fourth after a home win.
Jerrell:Yeah. And then pull them out and come back to over Newcastle, this past week as well,
Will:my friends say fuck newcastle
Christian:I knew I was I knew I was missing a fucking game. I wasn't able to pull up the
Will:I I blocked them out. They hurt me too recently. So I blocked them out. So sorry to our all our magpie fans You know shouts out to y'all result because we're about to go into a little bit. No Denied denied. Yeah
Jerrell:to go through our power rankings, get a check in our, on our power rankings and see where we're standing.
Will:we've been putting this off for about three or so weeks. Finally updated the power rankings. For the most part, it's been consistency. Since the last time we did this was match day 15th, our biggest movers Newcastle United. They're back around where we expected them to be earlier in the season. They were hovering around 12th in December. They're back up now to six. So they're challenging for a year european placement going into the rest of the season Crystal palace. We just touched on as well. They're up five spots as well. They were Looking at a relegation battle. They couldn't get any results They've moved up and then outside of that rest of the table's been more or less in line. Brighton's dropped three spots spurs dropped three spots as well Everyone else hovering around where they're supposed to be with nottingham forest showing the most consistency. Outside of arsenal liverpool moving up two spots. Since end of december, so they went from kind of like Are they contenders pretenders? Looking like real pretenders rest of the season. They're One of the other teams that I put as like an outside shot depending depending on maybe they can challenge I was like if I took 9ham's name out of it, I put maybe a power six like Man City Would I be worried? I'm with them nine points out even with the game in hand and I figured that. Odds are, they'll take Europe, they'll take a UCL spot if possible, 4 points clear of Chelsea. But, if it was Man City, 9 points out, playing off their strength last year, I was just like, there's an outside shot if Liverpool starts dropping so we'll see how it goes. But they're 15 spots higher than what we projected. We, we saw them being potentially a relegation team. They finished 17th last year. What a turnaround! Nottingham Forest, collect your flowers, your seeds, your tree sap. I don't know what the fuck trees subside on outside of water and rain. So
Jerrell:Got to
Christian:Shout out to Nuno for That. Shout out to
Jerrell:is
Will:I thought Christian was gonna talk, so I stayed quiet, so
Christian:No, I was just saying shout out to Nuno for the turnaround. Like you said, one season they go from 72 first place. Nuno has been doing a great job over there with the trick trees.
Jerrell:For sure. Definitely our biggest winner so far this season and hopefully that remains the case by the end of the season when we go back and look at our final rankings and just you know what? And we all apologize to
Will:And
Jerrell:it's an incredible
Will:yeah.
Jerrell:the Spurs being down, being our biggest loser, dropping 10 spots on our predictions, I didn't think the Spurs would be there. I could have, if you said Manchester United was going to be a disappointment, I would, I would have agreed with you, but to see
Will:They're tied for our second biggest disappointment, but yeah.
Jerrell:But to see the Spurs just the bottom towards the bottom, not in danger of anything, really. They'll be back next year. But, it makes the rivalry less exciting when you're not doing well.
Will:I mean with the caveat as well
Jerrell:money.
Will:They're you know, they I think part of it the inconsistency We saw early on that inconsistency Opening the door for their injuries to really just run amok on their results. Hope we'll see there. They have a goal lead heading into the tie tomorrow against liverpool. So I mean They're all in on Carabao, right? As I hope to get trophies. We'll see how that goes for them. But yeah, Manchester United as well. Huge disappointment as we talked about. They're in transition. New coach, given the results. West Ham United, the other team that also disappointing based off our power rankings. They're six points back. They're my personal catfish. They also bought in Graham Potter. Great coach, formerly at Chelsea and Brighton over the last couple years. Yeah.
Christian:Quick shoutout to the Cherries. Two months ago, match day 15, they were in 8th place. And I mean they've been able to eke out consistency and move up one spot to seventh. We had them Where do we had them?
Will:We had them on average 13th. They finished 12th last season and yeah, they've moved up. They're still hovering around. So similar with Nottingham, we're just like, is this, is this real? Is this real? They're just like, we're fucking real. Okay, and we're trying to, we're crashing the party. Yeah. Michael B. Jordan makes more money than fucking Ed Sheeran apparently. Sorry Christian. But But yeah, it's good to see them showing some staying power. You saw those open spots and especially investment in Nottingham Forest when they first came back up finally paying off. It's fun to see these new faces crashing the party.
Jerrell:Definitely. Yeah, it'd be fun. Towards the end or as we get closer to the season, 14, 14 more games left for everybody, 15, if you're Liverpool and Everton, it'd
Will:Yeah,
Jerrell:to see how this all shakes
Will:we'll probably do next update around maybe that March international break maybe right before they come back or After it ends, we'll do something around there. Maybe around match day 31 32, maybe april who knows So as we lead up to that run in
Jerrell:run
Will:Yeah, it's it's it's happening. It's it's happened. So soon. There's there hasn't been enough football said no one ever That is our pod power rankings. We'll have that posted probably on x maybe probably not honestly
Jerrell:let's screen cap
Will:What else came up, we got some ties for announced for the convoluted Swiss model of the UCL we have one highlighted on the doc, but y'all want me to run through it real quick and then we can do quick reactions or
Jerrell:do it.
Will:So ties were announced Friday Saturday depending You know but we have breast versus PSG meeting up though. We'll have Bruges versus Atalanta, man city versus real Madrid. Some champions facing off against each other. Early Juventus versus PSV fine Nord versus AC Milan. Byron looks out as they get Celtic versus man city. We have a sporting Portugal taking on Barusa Dortmund. So both of our finalists from last year's UCLs are in the knockout phase. Of this year's UCL. And then we have Monaco vs Benfica. We don't have to go too, too deep on it if you guys want to go a little bit deeper in City Real Madrid. But I figured it'd be cool if we all just kinda knee jerk, don't think too much about it. Reactions about who we think is gonna come on top considering first leg ties start.
Jerrell:PSG
Will:Ha ha ha ha ha. Jarrell, Jarrell saw Dembele's Hattie.
Christian:on
Will:And, and he said, They don't call me Titty Boy for no reason. It's two chains. It's two chains, it's okay. Our listeners are cultured, especially our French and Japanese listeners. Christian, who you got, Breast PSG?
Christian:i'ma always vote for breast bro
Will:We are, we are,
Christian:always
Will:have synergized. Give me the breasts because my co, my co hosts also chose breasts. So breasts
Jerrell:took 27
Will:who we're, who we're hoping for. We had, we had some synergy early on.
Jerrell:I know.
Will:Bru at Atlanta. Bruge. Challenging man city in that last tie up at Atlanta. Just missing out of qualification. Who you got?
Christian:i'ma go atalanta.
Jerrell:thought, yeah, I'll agree with Christian
Will:Oh, look it up. We're synergizing again. No, no hot takes on this one at Atlanta. Look, men and all the play players over there playing fun football.
Jerrell:all the way
Will:We'll, we'll leave the highlighted tie for last Yves PSV. We have the Dutch versus the Italians. I'm, I'm leaning NTUs.
Jerrell:I'm really into Juventus too. Dave is a big, big Juventus fan. I,
Will:Shout out Dave
Jerrell:go
Christian:I don't know if Dave lists it, but Juventus has been, I don't even think they're top three in the league right now. I know Juventus has been struggling a little bit.
Jerrell:But you can still believe Christian.
Will:as someone who was a fun Oh.
Christian:I'mma, I'mma, I'mma choose PSV as the upset.
Jerrell:What do you have to lose?
Will:As a big LDJ fan from his time at Barcelona on loan under the Gumen era, Dark Times he's starting for them, so I'm gonna go Juventus. We also have Feyenoord versus AC Milan. AC Milan, they just picked up, help me guys, they just got someone on loan, it's okay.
Christian:From the
Will:just did, yup, mhm, this is my, this is my ministry versus Feyenoord, Feyenoord who got, Their cheeks clapped last week, 6 1 in a day. They'd like to forget. I'm going Milan off this there it is. Yep, Joel Felix. Isn't it crazy that I couldn't remember his name considering this man was like One of the faces of La Liga, you could say. Oh, also, speaking of La Liga, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid this weekend. First, second place separated by one point. I might be hoping for a draw. How you feel about that, Christian? We are on target this week.
Christian:I'mma go with Madrid. I'm not worried. It's
Will:I love that.
Jerrell:Ha ha ha.
Christian:I'm not, I'm not worried at all.
Will:Easily Madrid.
Christian:Easy. Easy.
Will:so I got Milan against Feyenoord switching back. How about you guys?
Jerrell:Probably AC Milan for me. I don't know anything about Feyenoord.
Will:He's
Jerrell:Captain America plays for
Christian:Yeah.
Jerrell:even
Will:hate it. I fucking hate it. I hate it so much. He's so he's had a good season too
Christian:he not available? Yeah, that's, he's been going off in
Will:going off relative To our expectations of americans. He's been really solid. Don't get me wrong, but
Christian:solid.
Will:Yeah, he's been it's like a really good year. Don't get me wrong, but The fucking glazing. Okay, south
Christian:going to say,
Will:versus byron does celtic have a chance? Hmm Yeah, I
Christian:Celtic beats Baron. Yeah.
Will:like it should have been me When that's how I got it now Gerald speaking of how are the Braves doing?
Jerrell:They're second place in their league. I do have to get back to you on what, what qualifies for promotion. I don't know if it's first place or top three, but I'll get back to you. The, the money, the money is
Will:The money's flowing Gerald's don't Gerald's investment.
Christian:little backpedal to AC Milan. Joe, I feel like scored today.
Jerrell:Oh,
Will:Look at that impacts. Oh,
Christian:with
Will:yeah I think he's there on like loan less of the rest of the six months after moving from moving to Chelsea. That's crazy
Jerrell:isn't he like
Christian:I have too many people.
Will:You know He fell him and simeoni didn't they weren't they didn't really jive I feel like some of his progress was just like stagnated there as well with the type of footballer he is and With Barcelona, it was just like the effort on both ends. He never really stamped out his place there, especially with the price tag and the wages that he's on. It's that's you expect a little bit more so yeah, he's been on loan for like more or less like the last three seasons, just rumored with moves. Hopefully he can find some form because he's super young. He's like 25. But
Jerrell:only 25.
Will:he got bought, to
Christian:long.
Will:Yeah, he 120 mil from atletico madrid like what? 2017 18 19 around when griezmann got sold to barcelona for Also similar is it funny how money works? Anyway, sporting sporting Portugal, sporting Clu de Portugal versus pretty much, right? Honestly, when you look at how some of these deals work, I'm just like, this is just fake money deal versus Borussia Dortmund. Yeah.
Jerrell:favoring sporting Dorman just fired their manager, right?
Christian:Dorm's also had, has,
Jerrell:it's got a little bit more consistency, I guess but I don't know
Christian:I know dorm's been having a tough time at the Punes Liga. So it's, and sporting has always been like a, a, a top flight team for, for Portuguese.
Will:They definitely were
Christian:sporting.
Will:Sporting starting off 4 0 Initially in Champions League, Amarim left and they've wobbled especially in the league and whatnot But they were able to finish stronger last season Last result again in the UCL. I think I'm gonna go Dortmund.
Christian:the
Will:I'm I'm gonna go Dortmund actually They started it's not it. We had finalists from last year and the league's gone, you know the focus that The focus is gonna come to Dortmund and also I just love seeing Dortmund Stadium all filled up in yellow So I'm going Dortmund and our last fixture Benfica the Portugal Giants versus Monaco The Bad Bunny song who do you guys have?
Jerrell:the Kilo says a course for Monaco. Here he is.
Christian:I think I'm gonna go. I'm gonna take the two Portuguese teams on this first
Will:I'm I'm also I think I'm gonna go Benfica on this one just inside it We got we gotta keep them in so Benfica I also enjoyed kind of the way they were playing in UCL Monaco, they have pieces obviously there, but I'm gonna go Benfica. Come yell at us next week after first leg ties are done. And we all are varying degrees of smart and or stupid.
Jerrell:Yes,
Christian:both, at the same time.
Jerrell:about Man City vs. Real
Will:I have the attention span of a squirrel.
Christian:Look me in the fucking eyes, you cowards.
Will:who you got?
Christian:Obviously, a la Madrid.
Will:Okay, Jerald,
Christian:have?
Will:who do you have?
Jerrell:Oh, I'm picking, I'm picking Richard for this
Will:Oh shit, that's crazy, my camera went out.
Christian:me in the fucking eyes, you
Will:the chaos in me, the chaos in me thinks it'd be hilarious if Real Madrid lost just because they were supposed to be like the football equivalent of the Warriors coming into this season. It's been a little bit of growing pains.
Christian:been rocky.
Will:Naturally, Man City also decides to also be a little rocky over time. So just all things considered Man City's just looking shaky in the back. I'm going to go Real Madrid just because if there's, Man City's just not looking staunch in the back. So I think Madrid gets goals and I think City's been struggling in their midfield enough that Bellingham's going to be able to get a result. And that's not a knee jerk reaction. I don't follow my own rules. Sorry about that. But yeah. Probably. The chaos in me thinks City would be funny, but probably Real Madrid is where my, my heart lies. So we'll revisit this next week. I should have typed all this while we were answering, but I'll just listen to it back and write down where we all stand on these.
Christian:Speaking of a tumultuous season, Alaba has pool noodles for ligaments. He just got injured again. He got another setback in his recovery, I think, yesterday. So he's, Alaba was playing great for us, And
Will:If only you guys, if only you guys had money to replace him.
Christian:Yeah, it's tough, dude. Our center backs have just kept going fucking out. That's cool. had that one baby Sergio Ramos who just had the Sergio Ramos hair. I forgot his name. He's
Will:I cries, cries in Bernal.
Christian:And he, he got, he, he tore his ACL like the beginning of the season. We had three players tear their ACLs. It's been tough. It's been tough. And so China and, and, and Bop it can't stay on side is go Madrid.
Will:But outside of that, nothing can stop him. Once he figures out that offside line, he's unstoppable,
Jerrell:been playing too much rec
Will:So other notes Carabao semi legs are going on today. Tomorrow, Arsenal 2 0. Newcastle is our kryptonite, it looks like. I think that's the next team we need to try to figure out. We got Carabaounced, was my, Riveting and analysis of that Liverpool Spurs as we mentioned Spurs up 1 0 going into their game. They'll be playing tomorrow afternoon And then we also have Everton Liverpool. They'll have that replay next week So all teams will be balanced after the 12th and then this weekend. We got a shit ton of FA Cup ties You know who doesn't have a FA Cup tie guys
Jerrell:Our symbol.
Will:Arsenal! They're going to Ibiza! They said apparently they're going to Ibiza to go on the trip that they did last year But different because we did this again every year. So God, I need something. I need,
Jerrell:They're
Will:me a trophy. Find me a trophy. Match day 25 preview. Match day 25 is not till the 14th given FA Cup this weekend. So we'll cover that next week. Are we okay with that fellas?
Jerrell:Yeah, that
Christian:Yeah, it sounds good.
Will:Christian plug the socials!
Christian:All right. As you guys know, follow us on Twitter at the football fellas. We have an Instagram page as well. We are going to start dropping the links again. Will right intern as far as the pickups.
Will:Mm hmm. Yeah, match a 25 pick'ems. We're making a return.
Christian:Comment.
Will:I was like, intern? I thought I had a job finally.
Christian:We're gonna, we're gonna drop the link for the pick ems, everybody. I suggest if you guys win, we will air five you or something, you won nothing, other than knowing you're better than three idiots online.
Will:Six. Christian
Christian:Okay.
Will:will have his shirt off too.
Jerrell:card that says I beat football fellows and pick'ems.
Will:and then we'll sign it with sad crying faces. But also on Instagram, the website, don't ask about it. And also blue sky, blue sky might come up. Who knows? Who knows? And maybe I'll delve out there. And also we have a Gmail. So if you have questions, thoughts, or you want to look Christian in the eye and pick Man City.
Jerrell:We need a new logo.
Will:Or if you want to do some free work, I need, I need another intern who's good at that shit. TheFootballFellas at gmail. com outside of that, anything else you guys want to touch on?
Jerrell:I think we're all right. I just can't wait till the next podcast guys.
Will:Episode 28,
Jerrell:wait, wait. When does this episode 28 when UCL starts? When again?
Will:the 11th, 12th, so next week we'll probably do like a light review over that. We'll probably touch base on it, see if there's any shock new FA Cup results, but next week maybe we'll just vibe. I don't know. I don't know, I'm feeling pretty good about it. Maybe we'll talk about the Super Bowl. Who knows?
Jerrell:Oh,
Christian:Damn. You know
Will:Mm hmm.
Christian:do? On a slow week, we should do like a, a live recording of a game. Just like live reaction. We're watching like the Arsenal Liverpool game, live reaction, as a special, plus one episode we can drop on the socials.
Will:Oh shit. Do we have a youtube channel?
Christian:Now we do.
Jerrell:YouTube channel.
Will:I was just like, there we go. I was just like, I don't remember if we did But we're very organized here at the football fellas. We run a very compact, three zero zero zero zero formation, so yeah
Jerrell:Got two full time employees and an intern. It's tough out
Will:How the fuck did I lose full time and go down to intern permanently? What type, what type of promotion is that? That being said if we don't have anything else, we wish you would do. This has been the Football Fellows, and thank you for listening. Love you guys.
Christian:Peace.
Jerrell:All right. See you next week.
